Ted Scouten is an American journalist working for WFOR CBS Miami as a reporter based in Broward County since 1999. Since 1998, he has traveled the globe and neighborhoods to broadcast South Florida.

Scouten joined the University of Texas when he finished his high school education. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, and minors in Spanish, English, and Psychology. Also, he studied at the Universidad de Valencia in Valencia, Spain.

His reporting has ranged from all over the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America. Moreover, he was on the scene of the ruinous earthquake in Haiti less than 24 hours after it happened. Within a day he arrived in NYC after the 9/11 attacks. He said that even though the stories were devastating, he wouldn’t give up the experiences since they taught him to be a better human and journalist.
One of his most influential pieces of work was the 2012 documentary “March of the Living: Return to Auschwitz”. He alongside three Miami holocaust survivors went back to Auschwitz for an emotional journey. For the documentary, he received two Emmy Awards. Also, he was honored with a 2002 Emmy for his report on pet overpopulation in South Florida.
Scouten began his television career on the Texas-Mexico border in Laredo, Texas in 1986, followed by gigs in the Rio Grande Valley, Austin, and Orlando. Since he was 3 years old, he watched the news and would lead his parents into the living room to watch the news whenever they had company. Thus, he believes that journalism chose him.
He is a proud member of the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists. He takes pride in his stories celebrating the contributions of LGBTQ+ Pioneers in South Florida and the impact they have had on the community.
