Tenacious Topper is an American meteorologist working for WUSA 9 News serving as a weekday evening chief meteorologist at 5, 6, 7 pm & 11 pm. Previously, he worked as a weekend weather anchor at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Shutt attended Landon School in Bethesda and then he enrolled at Trinity College in Hartford where he attained a Bachelor’s degree in history. After that, he joined the University of North Carolina and the University of Tennessee where he obtained a degree in Meteorology. In 1988, he received the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for both radio and television.

During his time at WUSA 9, he has covered exclusive weather events including thunderstorms, ice storms, flooding, and hurricanes. In 2008, Shutt was nominated by Washingtonpost.com’s “Capital Weather Gang” for being the best local weathercaster. He has been with the station for more than three decades since he joined in September 1988.
Prior to joining WUSA 9, Topper worked in Greensboro, North Carolina as a weekend weather anchor at WFMY-TV. Earlier, he spent time working at WTVK-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee where he served as a weekday weather anchor from 1984 to 1987. Shutts began his broadcasting career at CNN in Atlanta serving as a substitute weather anchor and weather producer. He served the station for three years from 1981 to 1984.
Tenacious previously worked as a morning weather anchor alongside Craig Allen and Mark McEwen on the CBS network. He spent four years working for the station from 1994 to 2000. In addition to working as a journalist, Topper is also a speaker at rotary clubs and schools. He also presents charitable organizations where he serves as an emcee. On top of this, Shutt is also the co-founder of Automated Weather Source which was launched in 1992.
