Tom Lally is an American journalist who serves as a Multiskilled Journalist at WHAS1 News, since April 2021. He is a member of the Night Team. He approaches each story like a neighbor, looking to make Kentuckiana a better place to live.
Tom Lally Career
Tom was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs before moving to the Commonwealth. He began telling powerful stories as a member of a speech team in high school and continued at the University of Minnesota, where he was named among the best speakers in the country.
He began his career in media as a production assistant for NBC News during Super Bowl LII. With his eyes widening, he persuaded the team to hire him as an intern the next summer. He worked on stories that aired on national newscasts and learned alongside some of the network’s best. Nonetheless, he credits our Minneapolis sister station KARE11 with molding him into the reporter he is today.
His first foray into local reporting taught him that a community’s strength is determined by its residents. He discovered that the devastated, forgotten, and resilient form a backbone that must be protected if a community is to stand proudly. He converses with his plants when he is not conversing with his neighbors. He’s not sure when his strange obsession with home plants started, but it’s now a fully formed passion. His favorite plant is a Fittonia (seen below), and he’d want to see photos of yours as well!
