McKinley Strother Biography

McKinley Strother is an American anchor and reporter working at WSLS where he serves as a weekend evening anchor at 6 pm and 11 pm. He joined the WSLS 10 News team in June 2020.

In 2012, he joined Elizabeth City State University where he graduated in 2016, with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and media studied in 2016. He was able to secure a job during a fight for racial equality and a global health crisis at WTKR in Southwest Virginia. He joined the WTKR team in June 2015 as an assignment editor/associate producer a position he held till November 2015. Later on, he was promoted to serving as a producer till he decided to leave the station in October 2017.

Virginia is his native home and he was brought up in Hampton. Before he relocated to Roanoke, Strother worked in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as a producer, and in Huntsville, Alabama as a reporter. In addition, while he worked in Alabama, he was privileged to cover a wide range of stories in the community. He covered Huntsville LGTBQ teen’s suicide, the death of an abducted 3-year-old all gained national attention, and an Alabama mother’s custody battle over an improper drug test.

Furthermore, to his devotion and determination for resolution, he was able to find strangers to assist a shoemaker whose business was burglarized, get street lights fixed after a pedestrian was hit, and bridge built for a community trapped by a river. During his free time, he can be found in the best hot yoga studios and in a restaurant.
