Alan Gionet Biography
Alan Gionet is an American Anchor/Reporter working for CBS4 News/KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado where he serves the station as an Anchor and Reporter. He has been working in the News career for more than 30 years now. He first joined the CBS4 News team in early 1994 before living the station and rejoining in 2006.

Gionet is a proud graduate of Boston Emerson College where he was studying broadcast journalism. Asides from this, he has studied at Harvard University Extension and the University of Massachusetts at Boston and Amherst.

Gionet works with CBS4 News where he serves the station as an Anchor/Reporter. He states that he loves living and working in Colorado and finds new things every day and truly loves people. Gionet states that that makes the journalism career great for him. He kick-started his career in a small market in Mississippi where he was lugging the camera and the video recording deck around. There, he was writing, shooting, and editing stories before putting them together in the newscast.
Alan has previously worked as an anchor and reporter in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he was exposing deplorable conditions in the state’s foster care system resulting in more vigorous enforcement on behalf of children. He was also reporting on worker safety issues leading up to the largest workplace fine in the state’s history.
Prior to joining CBS4 News, he was working as an investigative reporter in Providence, Rhode Island. There, he was reporting on the city’s infamous, but charming mayor Buddy Cianci. He was also exposing tax breaks for nonprofits. When working with CBS4 News in the early 90s, he reported extensively on forest fires and was the first to report that the firefighters killed on Storm King Mountain did not get critical information about the changing weather conditions that put them in danger. Asides from this, he was also showing how registered sex offenders were often not living where they showed their registered addresses.
The late 1990s saw him leave CBS4 News to serve as the main anchor in Jacksonville, Florida where he was later named nightside managing editor. There, he logged many hours during hurricanes and the 200 election controversy when he first revealed voting irregularities in Duval County. Through his reporting on endangered North Atlantic right whales brought national focus to a little-known species.. of which there are only a few hundred known ones left.
Asides from this, his newscasts won a long list of awards which include Emmys and Edward R. Murrow Awards. Individually, he has been lauded with Heartland Reginal Emmy Awards for covering the Denver area as a top anchor. He has also received a regional Emmy for his innovative Good Questions reporting. Asides from this, he has won awards for everything from spot news to feature stories.
He later made a return to CBS4 News in the 2000s and is happy to be back in Colorado with his family. Alan states that the only love that surpasses his love for journalism is his love for fatherhood. He has been able to cover all of Colorado’s biggest stories over the years. This includes forest fires and environmental stories, COVID, and mass killings.
Being a student of science and politics, he loves to break down complicated concepts and ask questions that get to the core of the story. Asides from this, he reads extensively, and loves trail running, hockey, biking, and playing the harmonica. He has also marked off quite a few of Colorado’s 14ers, and found new places in Colorado.
He states that CBS4 News is recognized as one of the greatest places to work in the nation. This is because of the quality of reporting, the team atmosphere, and the videography. He states that he considers each new person and place in Colorado as a privilege. Alan also believes in listening and it is a skill he learned from his parents.
Gionet states that his dream job is journalism and that’s the reason he returned to CBS4 News for there is no place he would rather be. Alan states that his favorite word is understanding. He states that intelligence is the ability to consider another’s point of view. On the hand, his favorite noise is the sound of children laughing. He states that he made his first Television appearance in Tupelo, Mississippi.
His first-ever story was about the death of an impoverished woman in Mississippi. His favorite interview was his interview with an African-American high school principal in Mississippi who said after a racial incident: “Show me a man who has a problem with black people and I’ll show you a man with a problem with all people. “
On the other hand, he states that his dream interview is interviewing Merither Lewis. Alan further explains that the reason he is a journalist is that he loves the craft of storytelling and enjoys writing television news and the access to get to people and places. He states that having four children, his hidden talent is anywhere as it takes an Eisenhower-like ability with logistics.
Gionet’s favorite food happens to be Burrito and his favorite musician is James Taylor. On the other hand, his favorite sports team is Avalanche as he is an old hockey player. He loves reading books by Josep Mitchell and his favorite vacation spot is anything he hasn’t discovered in Colorado. Alan states that one word that best describes CBS4 is teamwork.
His least favorite household chore is cleaning up after the dog and his least favorite word is hate as he hates it. Gionet’s least favorite noise on the other hand is loud motors in the mountains and his favorite music is running tunes and the blues, JT, lives in the Berkshires where he is from.
He states that what keeps him in Colorado is the wide open spaces and open minds. The biggest risk he has taken has been in a couple of spots on 14ers that he wishes he has avoided. Gionet states that if he was to role-play in a skit or movie, he would pick Jason Bourne.
