Alden German Biography
Alden German is an American journalist who serves as a Meteorologist at WHAS11 in Louisville, KY. He joined WHAS-TV in October of 2019.
Alden German Career
He was one of those kids who was terrified of thunderstorms yet adored snow as a kid. Tornadoes slammed through his hometown of Kansas City in May of 2003. Despite the fact that his home was spared, the incident reinforced his phobia of storms. He gradually realized that these individuals on TV seemed to know what will happen in the future, so he began watching the news to see what the weather would be like. That piqued his interest in broadcasting as well.
He attended school at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science and a Minor in Journalism. While in school, he helped build a weather department for the student-run television station KUJH-TV. He also had the unique opportunity to fill in and do forecasts for the hyper-local cable station that served Lawrence and surrounding small communities.
After graduation, he packed up and headed north to Lincoln, Nebraska to KLKN where for just under two and a half years he worked as a meteorologist and reporter. Nebraska saw wild weather during his time, including one of the snowiest winters ever and the catastrophic flooding of March 2019 that he got to cover firsthand.
When he is not at work, you can find him in the gym or reading a book. Locally owned bookstores are his favorite, and he is always on a search for something new to read. He likes animals and volunteered with the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln and hopes to continue doing so in Kentucky! He is excited to get outside and explore what Kentuckiana has to offer this Midwest transplant.
