Austin works with First Coast News where he serves the station as a Weekday Evening News Anchor. While he was in elementary school, his music teacher cast him as a news anchor in a school play, because she thought he resembled NBC Today Show Host Bryant Gumbel. He joined First Coast News in 2016 working as an anchor/reporter.
He also headed to the sunshine state after spending two years as the primary anchor at Time Warner Cable News in Raleigh, North Carolina. Austin was raised in East Texas. He happens to be a proud graduate of the University of North Texas where he was majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Social Science.
For about six years, he was working as an anchor and reporter at the CBS affiliate in his hometown of Tyler. Asides from this, he was also working his way up from weekend anchor to the anchor of the 5 PM News while he was there.
His most memorable assignment was visiting Iraq. For a week, he also spent time with the soldiers of Fort Hood as they prepared to come home. He also told their stories and showed viewers back home in Texas, what they were doing for our country and for the people of Iraq. He was there as they returned home to their loved ones. Away from work, he is a lover of good food and company.
