Ashton Altieri Biography
Ashton Altieri is an American Meteorologist working for CBS4 News/KCNC -TV in Denver, Colorado where he serves the station as a Morning Meteorologist. He has been working with the station since the month of September 2016.
Ashton Altieri Education
Ashton studied Meteorology, Journalism, and Broadcasting at Central Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in the month of May 2002. He then moved to rural Mississippi and received a Master of Science in Geosciences-Meteorology from Mississippi State University in May 2004.
Ashton Altieri Career
Altieri works with CBS4 News where he serves the station as a Weekday Morning and Noon Meteorologist. There, he airs the weather news for the weekday news from 4:30-7 AM and CBS News at Noon. Prior to CBS4 News, he worked with Tegna News stations such as WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. He has also worked with 9News in Denver where he worked for about seven years. Asides from this, he also worked with WOI in Des Moines. He served this station between June 2004 and September 2016.
Altieri had always known he would eventually return to Colorado because of the unique challenges that come with forecasting Front Range weather. The New Jersey native spent most of his time growing up in Michigan where he competed at the state level in Cross Country and Track. Asides from this, he became an Eagle Scout. Ashton continues to be active in scouting. He credits his passion for weather to earning the weather merit badge when he was 12 years old and an unforgettable encounter with a nearby tornado while on a camping trip, the same year sealed his interest in the subject.
When Ashton was in college, he worked at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan, and WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi. He has also worked at television stations in Des Moines and Sacramento. Through his education and on-air work, he has been able to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. Asides from this, he holds the Television Seal of Approval from the National Weather Service.
He explains that each year he visits dozens of schools along the Front Range in order to speak with students about the weather and the importance of studying math and science. Being a lifelong fan of the outdoors, he enjoys spending his free time playing sand volleyball, skiing, running, and his all-time favorite, snowboarding.
He states that his role models have always been his parents and is living his dream job, being a meteorologist. He further states that the job he would never try is being a Phlebotomist. Ashton made his first television appearance when he was in the 3rd grade. This was in the background while on a school tour of the CBS station in Detroit.
He explains that the reason he is a meteorologist is that weather is fascinating and he craves opportunities to explain why. His favorite food happens to be Italian food and his favorite musician is Mumford & Sons. His favorite author on the other hand happens to be Jon Krakauer and his favorite vacation spot is Mackinac Island.
He explains that one word that best describes CBS4 News is empowering. He further explains that his least favorite household chore is cleaning the bathroom. On the other hand, his favorite word is derecho. Altieri’s favorite noise is his snowboard carving powder and his least favorite noise is his snowboard on ice. His favorite music happens to be classic and alternative rock. He states that if he was to act in a movie he would play Joseph Gordon-Levitt and states that what keeps him in Colorado is the view and 25 different ski areas.
