Brett McIntyre Biography
Brett McIntyre is an American meteorologist working for 13 News, as a weekday and weekend meteorologist. He joined Channel 13’s First Alert Storm Team in July 2008.
Central Iowa’s Fort Dodge is Brett’s native home and he attended Iowa State University where he earned a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology and a second four-year degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. While he attended Iowa State University, he joined other students in storm chasing across the state and earned in-field experience with Central Iowa’s severe weather.
McIntyre also did research and wrote a thesis during his senior year on the strength and impacts of atmospheric “caps” on severe tornadic and thunderstorm potential and development in Iowa. In addition, he also interned with Channel 13 Sports during his entire senior year while working alongside meteorologist Jeriann Ritter.
On May 25, 2008, he chased a storm in Northern Iowa between his graduation and his start at WHO-HD. Brett was among the first people in town to witness the destruction of the EF-5 tornado and helped notify authorities about the severity of the damage and assist where possible in clean-up.
For the last 4 years, he has been attending the Doppler Radar conference in West Des Moines and the Central Iowa NWA’s Severe Storms. The conference brings together emergency managers and meteorologists from across the country and details case studies of significant severe weather events of the past year inclusive of informing them of new tools in the field of Meteorology.
