Brien McElhatten Biography
Brien McElhatten is an American anchor working at WPTA where he serves as an evening anchor at 5, 6, and 11 pm. He rejoined the WPTA news team in October 2015, after previously working at the station from 2008 to 2010, as a reporter.
In 2008, McElhatten graduated from Ball State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. Later on, he joined ABC21 as a reporter covering consumer and financial issues as a co-host and correspondent for the nationally syndicated news magazine known as The List. While working as a journalist, he has traveled to the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where he ended a hand to customers in sifting through the marketing and gimmicks to find technologies they could utilize.
In addition, while he worked on The List show, he won four Emmy awards and contributed to Super Bowl-related stories. Prior to joining the ABC21 team, he worked in Phoenix, Arizona at ABC 15 where he covered breaking news. Furthermore, hours, after former Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot McElhatten, was on the ground reporting from Tucson. He also oversaw the live coverage of Arizona’s largest wildfire, known as the Wallow Fire.
As part of his environmental reporting, he went to the mountains where he showed viewers how state and federal officials manage one of the world’s most endangered wolf populations. Brien also worked in the Southwest where he served as a live reporter for Scripps television during national news stories. During his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending as much time as possible in the outdoors.
