Calyn Thompson is an American anchor/reporter and multimedia journalist working for 13 News on weekdays and weekends reporter and a multimedia journalist. She joined the 13 News team in November 2020, after previously working at KIMT-TV, where she was a weekend anchor.
Des Moines is her native home and she discovered her love for journalism after the heroic homecoming of her cousin from Afghanistan while he was injured. In 2013, she joined Wartburg College where she graduated in 2017, with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting journalism.
She interned at KCRG-TV9 News in Cedar Rapids and at Senator Chuck Grassley’s office in Des Moines during her college summers. In addition, before she relocated to Des Moines, she worked at KIMT News 3 in Rochester, Minnesota where she served as a weekend anchor and report.
Over the years, she has received recognition for her reporting from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists and from the Iowa Broadcast News Association. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to cover legislative sessions, a number of severe storms, presidential visits, braved the 2019 Polar Vortex in Minnesota, and groundbreaking medical research.
