Chad Plein is an American journalist working for KSPR as an anchor. He joined the station in January 2007 as a weekend news anchor and has served the station for over a decade. Previously, he worked for KOAM (CBS) and KFJX (FOX) as the sports director for 3 years.

Plein joined St. Louis University in 1994 when he finished his education at Brentwood High School. In 1999, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. In college, he worked as a morning radio show co-host and was a member of the AFF.

During his career, he has broadcasted many Cardinals and Royals World Series games, Missouri State in the NCAA Tournaments for women’s basketball and baseball, the Chiefs in Miami for Super Bowl 54, and Drury’s 2013 National Championship run.

Plein delivered the national story of Bobby Petrino accepting the Missouri State University football job in January 2020. His first real encounter with the media was interning at ABC News Nightline. He was put in the middle of a fiery home run race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in September 1998 by the Midwest Bureau. Already an ardent sports fan, he already acknowledged what his career was.

Plein worked as a sports producer at KSDK (NBC) in St. Louis for three years before he relocated to St. Joseph in 2002. In St. Joseph, he launched his on-air career at KQTV (ABC). Two years later, his contract as the sports director expired and he relocated to Joplin where he was a sports director for KOAM for 3 years. After his time in Joplin, Plein accepted a weekend news anchor job at KY3.

Community Work

After suffering a heart attack at the age of 39, the American Heart Association has become special to him, where he helps by speaking engagements and fundraisers. He believes that giving back to the community is special.

In Springfield, Plein was dubbed the 2012 Man of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma for his fundraising endeavors. In 2014, he was listed in the Springfield Business Journal’s 40-under-40. His wife helped to raise money for the GYN Cancers Alliance when she was acknowledged in 417 Magazine’s 10 Most Beautiful Women of 2015.

Chad Plein Heart Attack

When he was 39 years old, Plein suffered a heart attack on December 18, 2015. His right coronary artery was more than 95% blocked. As a result, he required open-heart surgery. Plein was the 4th man on his paternal side to suffer a heart attack.

.Plein revealed that he was aware of his family’s history of heart disease. Further, he said that before the heart attack, he used to eat a lot of fast food and didn’t exercise coupled with his high-pressure job, he was stressed: “There was so much going on, My diet was horrible. No exercise. And I just stressed over every little thing.”

After the ordeal, he walks on the treadmill almost every day for about 45 minutes, skips fast food, and eats healthier home-cooked meals. As for the stress, he commented that he tries his hardest not to let little things get to him and has learned to not sweat the small stuff.
