He began his television career as a chief meteorologist at KODE News from May 1992 to February 1994. There, he prepared and presented nightly weather forecasts on a top-rated southwest Missouri station.

He has had a lifetime of experience with wild weather. And there are some incidents he will never forget including the bitter cold winters of the late 70s, the Blizzard of 82, the drought of 88, the great flood of 93, the new year’s Eve tornado, and the Good Friday Tornado. He was honored to receive the first of his eight Emmy Awards in October 2002 from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science for weather forecasting and reporting. In July 2006, he became the first ever St. Louis Meteorologist to receive the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation. This was after he passed a rigorous written test covering many aspects of atmospheric and natural sciences.

He realized a long-time dream in June 2003 when he was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force Reserves. During the summer of 2008, he was deployed to the Middle East in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two times, he has been honored as the United States Air Force Weather Officer of the Year for the Reserve Component. While serving on the Storm Prediction Centre backup team in 2013, he sent out the first real-world Tornado watch ever issued by the United States Air Force! Finally, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2019 and he hopes to retire as a “Light Colonel” in 2023. When he is not working, he enjoys hiking, being outdoors, running, or just working outside his yard.

Also, he is responsible for the development and implementation of specialty forecasts designed to highlight inconvenient weather…ushering in many hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of advertising yearly.
