Cynthia Smoot is an American Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who is working at FOX 13. There she serves as the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. co-anchor.

She traveled to the Everglades Everglades is to report on the threat of Burmese pythons to wildlife, and to Boca Grande, where invasive spiny-tailed iguanas are pushing out threatened gopher tortoises and eating native birds. She wrote a story entitled “A Real-Life Horse Whisperer,” which tells the story of Monty Roberts, who helped revolutionize horse training with his non-violent methods, and for the story, she received a prestigious Emmy award n 1998.
Yorktown, Virginia is her native home and she attended James Madison University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications. Her broadcast career began in radio where she was an award-winning morning news anchor and news director. In addition, she has worked for the past twenty-eight years in television as an anchor, producer, and reporter.
Furthermore, she has worked at the FOX-owned and operated TV station in Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point, North Carolina. She served as the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. news anchor for a period of thirteen years before joining the WTVT news team in 1997. While she resided in North Carolina, she received a number of community awards and honors for her involvement and advocacy on issues relating to foster care and adaption, teenage pregnancy, working women, and infant mortality.
