Dan Santella Biography

Dan Santella is an American Reporter/Anchor/Producer working with KELOLAND-TV where he serves the station as an anchor, reporter, and producer. He joined the KELOLAND-TV News team in the month of June 2014.

He attended O’Gorman High School. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. after high school, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Spanish and a minor in music. Following graduation, he spent a year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, teaching English and working at a community resource center. Back in the United States, he earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from Creighton University. He began to consider a career in journalism while writing for graduate school.

He spent his first few years on the east coast prior to his family moving to Sioux Falls on his first day of second grade. After his college years, he worked in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where he was teaching English and worked at a community resource center.

While he was writing for graduate school, he started to consider a career in journalism. Additionally, he also received an internship to write for a newspaper in McAllen, Texas which eventually turned into a job. His conversation with friends and family in late 2013 and early 2014 convinced him that the only place he wanted to be was where he found so many of them.

He later on applied to report for KELO-TV and was very happy to have been hired. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing and listening to music, watching each and every soccer match that the U.S. Men’s National team plays, playing soccer, and running. He says that when playing word association and given the prompt “genius,” he immediately thinks of Duke Ellington.
