Danae Bucci Biography
Danae Bucci is an American journalist who serves as a news reporter at WCVB Channel 5’s award-winning NewsCenter 5 team in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Bucci is a recipient of a number of awards including a 2021 “Best Reporter” GABBY from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. She was awarded during the association’s annual award ceremony which recognizes excellence in broadcasting. The Boston/New England Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented her with two student production awards during her time in college. One was for the Best College/University Newscast in 2017 for a student-run newscast. The second one was in 2019 for the Best Student Long-Form Non-Fiction video.
Danae Bucci Education
Bucci attended Bedford High School in Bedford, Massachusets. At Bedford, she placed sixth in the Championship Section of the 2015 New Balance Indoor Nationals All-American. She was the high jump champion in the 2015 Massachussets Indoor All-State. Danae also placed ninth at the 2015 New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the high jump.
She later joined Northeastern University and was a full-scholarship track and field athlete. She graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Danae was a Reinventing Local TV News Research Project Administrator for Northeastern University School of Journalism from August 2019 to May 2020. She served as a liaison between new hires and participating stations (WCVB and WLS). She created blog posts for RTDNA detailing their findings as the project progressed.

Bucci started her career at Gatehouse Media New England from June 2016 to May 2020. She was the Wicked Local Newspapers multimedia reporter in Greater Boston Area. Danae received story ideas, submitted pitches to the editor, and met deadlines. She also published articles both in print and electronically (55 total). She also researched possible story topics and interviewed people to gather relevant information.
Bucci was a Dow Jones News Fund Digital Media Intern in Colorado Springs, Colorado Area from May 2019 to August 2019. Bucci was selected out of nearly 800 applicants to participate in the 2019 Dow Jones News Fund digital internship program. There, she wrote breaking news, military and business articles as well as daily newsletters. She also assisted and produced video and audio content for newspaper and online publications.
Bucci served as a creator and host for the Point of Contention Podcast from July 2018 to December 2019. She hosted a biweekly 30-minute podcast on her website, iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play. Bucci served as a news writer at 7 NEWS, WHDH-TV in Greater Boston Area from December 2019 to May 2020. She assisted field reporters in formatting their scripts and communicating on-air hit times. She also prepared news formats and scripts using AP wires, iNews, CNN Newsource, and Stratus.
Bucci joined WJCL ABC in Savannah, Georgia, United States in May 2020. During her time there, she covered many high-profile stories including Ahmaud Arbery’s death and subsequent murder trial. She also did an investigation into the city of Savannah’s public struggle to enforce COVID-19 mandates during the pandemic.
She later joined WCVB-TV as a news reporter in March 2022 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. In January 2023, Danae became an adjunct faculty at Northeastern University.
