In addition to this, she has also been recognized for her work which has earned her various Emmy awards.

Before working at KTVU, Jana worked for WDTN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio. There, she served as a reporter and anchor for five years from 2002 to 2007. She started her journalism journey as a news reporter at KBJR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Duluth, Minnesota. As a reporter, she worked for the station for two years and ten months from November 1999 to August 2002.

Throughout her career, Katsuyama has covered multiple news including the Boston Marathon bombing, wildfires in the North Bay, and the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster in 2011. Apart from working as a journalist, Jana worked for the Hiroshima YMCA Medical College in Yonago, Japan. While there, she served as an international relations coordinator. She also with the Ministry of Education’s JET Program and the Japanese Foreign Ministry where she was chosen as a teacher to teach English.
