She joined WHO 13 News in April 2005 as the 5 and 10 p.m. anchor. Also, she anchored the 9 p.m. newscasts on 13 News, which also aired on KDSM. She co-anchored KDSM’s weekday morning newscast, Today in Iowa.
During her time at WHO 13, Towne has covered everything, from tornadoes to trials. Moreover, she worked with legacy anchors like Erin Kiernan and Andy Fales. When she first started with WHO 13, she wrote about former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray’s proposal to welcome Tai Dam refugees when the federal government refused. She did a follow-up on the story in the “legacy of love,” which chronicled Ray’s grandson, who fell in love with and married a daughter of Tai Dam refugees.
Towne reads to kids on Thursdays via the Everybody Wins mentoring program at Monroe Elementary School. She was involved in The Pet Project Midwest, which assists Iowans to keep their beloved pets at home and out of local shelters through its Pet Pantry.
Prior to relocation to Iowa, Towne worked and resided in Great Falls, Montana, where she served as the main anchor FOR KRTV. While she worked in Great Falls, Montana, she received a journalism award for a special report she did as a field anchor during a visit by President Bush.
