John Stevens Biography
John Stevens is an American meteorologist who is best known for his time at WHSV where he served as the weekday morning meteorologist from 5 to 7 am. John joined the WHSV team in January 2021 and later left the station in January 2022. In addition, he currently works at James Madison University where he serves as the Knowledge and Outreach Coordinator.
John Stevens Career
Stevens was a mathematics teacher before he persuaded a career in meteorology. John previously taught mathematics for nearly ten years, three at Stuarts Draft High School and six at Turner Ashby High School. However, in 2020, John decided to pursue his true passion, broadcast meteorology.
John grew up in Raleigh, Northern Carolina, and he spent every evening with his family watching Greg Fishel on WRAL give his weather forecast. Some weather highlights from his childhood that had an impact on John included riding out Hurricane Fran in 1996 in his home as the center of the storm passed directly overhead in the overnight hours, the January 2000 monster snowstorm that canceled school for two weeks, and seeing two waterspouts while at the beach on two separate occasions. John earned a Bachelor of Science in 2011 from Virginia Tech.
