Jon Evans is an American Award-winning Anchor and Podcast host working for WECT-TV serving as an assistant news director, anchor, and podcast host. Before joining WECT-TV in 2008, he worked as an anchor and reporter at WWAY News Channel 3.

Evans attended Panther Valley High School in 1976 where he graduated with a degree in 1980. After high school, he joined King’s College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in English in 1984.

Evans serves as a podcast host, anchor, and assistant news director at WECT News in Wilmington, North Carolina. He also worked together with Frances Weller at 11 pm on WECT News as well as a co-anchor of the newscast at 6 pm and 10 pm. In addition to this, Jon also produces and hosts an award-winning podcast named “1on1 with Jon Evans” where he delivers content for all major podcast apps and appears as an anchor at 5:30 pm from Monday – Friday on WECT News. While at WECT News, he is also in charge of managing nightside news operations, producing, and editing scripts daily for all newscasts.

Since he joined WECT-TV in January 2008, Jon has been with the station for more than a decade. In 2016, he was chosen to participate in the Raycom Advanced Leadership Training Program. Before joining WECT-TV, Evan worked as an anchor and reporter at WWAY News Channel 3. He joined the station in September 1992 working as an anchor and news director. As an anchor, he was in charge of providing scripts, mentoring young producers, and operating daily tasks for the news department. On top of this, Evan also co-anchored the newscast at 5,5:30, 6, and 11 pm.

Prior to working at WWAY News, he served as a reporter and anchor at WWAY News where he worked from April 1997 to December 2006. Jon started his career at WCTI-TV in New Bern, North Carolina where he served as an executive producer and sports director. During his time there, he was responsible for editing and shooting sports stories as well as anchoring daily sportscasts. Evan served the station for three years and six months from April 1989 to September 1992.

Apart from working as a journalist, Evans is involved in several community organizations such as the American Cancer Society, JDRF, The Willie Stargell Foundation, and the Red Cross. At the moment, he is a board member of the Purple Heart Foundation of North Carolina. In addition, Jon is also the Honorary Chairman and host of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation since January 2002.
