Linda Hurtado Biography

Linda Hurtado is an American thirteen-time Emmy award-winning anchor who is working at FOX 13. She serves as the anchor of the noon newscast, the FOX 13 News at 4 with Chris Cato, and the FOX 13 News at 5 with Cynthia.

Linda Hurtado Career

Linda wanted to become a journalist and while she was at the University of Georgia she learned the ropes. Before she relocated to Tampa, she worked at television stations in Fort Myers and Orlando. In her career as a journalist, she has won 13 Emmy awards, a Florida Bar award for a variety of news and health stories, Society of Professional Journalism awards, and an Edward R. Murrow award, and Society of Professional Journalism awards.

Linda has traveled to Haiti and Cuba to cover in-depth reports. In her television career, she covered many hurricanes inclusive of Andrew, Irma, and Charley, a Stanley Cup championship, a Super Bowl championship, and the Republican National Convention where she landed the only local TV interview with Ann Romney. In addition, she has also hosted numerous live events including the Martin Luther King and Gasparilla parades, and NASA space shuttle launches.

Linda loves being part of her community and has been a keynote speaker at several local events such as the Women of Influence luncheon hosted by the Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic Man and Woman of the Year awards sponsored by Tampa’s Hispanic Heritage, Inc. For over ten years, she has hosted the local MDA Telethon and emceed the local Dancing with the stars event that benefits local charities and the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Hospital’s Valentine’s Day event as well as events for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Before her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2011, Linda has been very active with the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events because her mother was a breast cancer survivor until 1995 when the disease finally took her life. She has become the local emcee for Susan G. Komen’s events since her diagnosis and recovery.

Furthermore, she supports the Face of Courage non-profit as well as the My Hope Chest which funds reconstruction for women with no insurance every year donates proceeds from A Shoot for a Cure to the Florida Hospital Foundation to fund mammograms for women without insurance. During her leisure time, she enjoys cheering on her two high school-aged daughters, volunteering at non-profits, and supporting Tampa’s NHL Lightning, NFL Buccaneers, and MLB Ray together with her husband.
