Mark Peterson Biography

Mark Peterson is an American anchor/reporter and multimedia journalist who is working at WNDU where he serves as a multimedia journalist and reporter. He joined WNDU-TV/ 16 News Now in 1985.

Ever since he joined the WNDU team in 1985, he has built a solid reputation as one of Michiana’s finest reporters. Peterson was brought up in Michiana just like many of his coworkers. He attended high school in Dowagiac, Michigan, and later joined Indiana University at South Bend where he graduated with a B.A. in communication arts/speech & rhetoric.

In addition, he is a high sort reporter for his ability to quickly grasp the facts and stay cool under pressure. Furthermore, prior to joining the WNDU-TV  team, he worked at WZZP-FM radio where he worked from 1984 to 1985 while serving as a news director. Peterson has also worked at WXMG/WRBR-FM radio in South Bend where he served as a reporter for a period of three years.

On July 15, 1955, WNDU-TV began broadcasting on UHF channel 46 for the first time. The station took over the NBC affiliation from WSJV (channel 28) right away and has remained with the network ever since. Romper Room and the first local telecast of a Notre Dame football game were among the early broadcasts on WNDU.

The University of Notre Dame signed a deal to sell the station to a private company on November 24, 2005. Gray Television announced in September 2015 that it would buy Schurz Communications for $442.5 million and sell WSBT-TV to Sinclair Broadcast Group.

The FCC approved the sale on February 12, 2016, and the deal was set to close four days later. Gray announced on February 1, 2021, that it had purchased Quincy Media, the owner of Heroes & Icons affiliate WSJV, for $925 million in cash. Gray intends to create a duopoly with WSJV and WNDU-TV because WSJV is rated lower than the top four stations in the South Bend market.
