After graduating from East Grand Rapids High School in 1965 and earning her Diploma in General education, she had to further her education. From there, she joined Wellesley College and in 1969 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics. While working as a correspondent for CBS News, she has reported the largest national and international stories of this era including the life and death of Nelson Mandela, the death of Princess Diana, the run-up to the war in Iraq, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Additionally, she interviewed world leaders and other newsmakers for “CBS Sunday Morning” in 1995 and 1997 including then-first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton twice.

She began her CBS News career as a correspondent based in the Atlanta bureau from 1977 to 1980. Her assignments included the exile of the Shah of Iran to Panama, the war in El Salvador, and the Cuban/Haitian boatlift to the United States. Her reporting on the exodus of Haitian and Cuban refugees to the U.S. was featured in the CBS Radio special, “Exodus: The Freedom Flotilla.” The coverage earned a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.

During her time in Atlanta, she covered a three-month strike by the coal miners in 1978. Her journalism career started in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked for WJEF Radio and WZZM-TV. Later, she became a general assignment reporter for WTVJ-TV Miami and for WMAQ-TV Chicago.

She has spent more than a dozen years as a foreign correspondent covering major international news while based in New York. Teichner was twice assigned to the CBS News London bureau from 1980 to 1984 and from 1989 to 1994. While there, she covered Britain’s royal wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer, the conflicts associated with the collapse of Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia),  the 1st Intifada in 1988 in Israel and the West Bank, the Lebanon War, as well as the Maze Prison Hunger Strike in Northern Ireland.

In addition to that, she reported on undercover operations with the Drug Enforcement Agency where she spent several weeks in the Bolivian jungle. She was one of a small group of journalists allowed by the military to accompany U.S. troops during the Persian Gulf War. Teichner also covered the conflict from Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq where she spent nearly six weeks with the 1st Armored Division in the Saudi desert.

From 1987 to 1989 she was based in Johannesburg, during the final dangerous years of the struggle to end apartheid in South Africa. She covered on Nelson Mandela’s release from prison.
