Mike Prangley Biography
Mike Prangley is an American Meteorologist/Host working with WJXX/First Coast News where he serves the station as a host for the First Coast Living show. He has been working with the station since the month of September 2010.
Mike Prangley Education
Mike studied meteorology at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont, where he learned hands-on forecasting. He also conducted research in Mount Washington, New Hampshire, which is known for having the worst weather in the world. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State. He also has a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of North Florida. Prangley has run eight marathons, including the DONNA. He also enjoys speaking with students, community groups, and clubs, as well as volunteering for charities.
Mike Prangley Career
Prangley works with First Coast News where he serves the station as a Morning Meteorologist. He has spent about 11 years working as a meteorologist where he spent 5 of these years as a member of the Good Morning Jacksonville team. The year 2021 saw him make a move to his current role as a host of the lifestyle show First Coast Living with fellow co-host Jordan Wilkerson.
While working for the Good Morning Jacksonville team, he injected his sense of humor into his forecasts, working hard to brighten the mornings across the First Coast. He brings the same sense of humor and fun to First Coast Living. Prior to First Coast News, he was working with WLFI News Channel 18 in Lafayette, Indiana where he was serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist for about 10 years. While there, he worked to keep folks calm and safe during severe weather which included blizzards, ice storms, and tornadoes.
Prior to this, he was a meteorologist in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and also covered Hurricane Bonnie. He states that if that wasn’t enough, he was also an on-air meteorologist in Duluth, Minnesota. There, his weather-watcher recorded the state record low of minus 60 which still stands to date. He has his first on-air weathercast in Gainesville, Florida, which he states that he will never forget because of how heavily it was raining.
Being a graduate of the University of South Florida, he states that he knows all about crazy Florida weather, which includes the Christman ice storm of 1989 which will shut the city down. He also states that he remembers taking weather observations on the roof as an intern at First Coast News, where he recorded a 76-mph wind gust during the March 1993 storm of the century. He also states that a few hours later, he had to get out his heavy coat and track snow flurries across the area.
