Paul Dellegatto Biography

Paul Dellegatto is an American meteorologist who is working at FOX 13. He serves as the chief meteorologist for FOX 13, and he broadcasts weather on weekdays from 4 p.m. to midnight. In addition, he leads a staff of five meteorologists who have all been certified by the American Meteorological Society.

Paul Dellegatto Career

Paul is a native of Natick, Massachusetts, and attended Lyndon State College in Vermont one of the most prestigious meteorology schools in the country. Eventually, Paul graduated from the University of Rhode Island with degrees in  Geography, Marine Affairs, and Meteorology.

His career in meteorology began at a private weather company in Ithaca, New York where his role was to prepare weather forecasts for clients. Later on, he was able to secure a similar position outside of Boston with Weather Services Corporation, one of the nation’s top private forecasting companies, and assisted in developing the United States Today’s familiar color weather page. In addition, he provided meteorological information to the Boston Red Sox, more than 50 radio stations across the country, and public works departments across the northeast.

Paul became a Meteorologist for WGME_TV in Portland, Maine in 1984. Later on, he became the Chief Meteorologist at WXII_TV in Winston Salem, North Carolina, where he resided for a period of four years. He has been working in WTVT since 1990, and in 1997, after the retirement of the legendary meteorologist, Roy Leep was when he became the chief meteorologist.

Paul was the first meteorologist in the country to show a number of spaghetti models that show the complexity of tracking tropical systems. Being the longest-serving chief meteorologist in Tampa Bay television, he continued WTVT’s legacy of being one of the top television weather departments and a weather pioneer in the country.

Under Dellegatto’s leadership, FOX 13 to date continues to be a weather innovator by adding ultra-high resolution satellite pictures utilizing McIDAS HD. In addition, it is the only station in the country receiving satellite pictures directly from space via its earth tracking station. Furthermore, tropical meteorology and harsh weather are his weather passion that serves his viewers well. During his leisure time, he enjoys visiting civic groups and schools and talking about the fascinating science of meteorology.
