Renée Cooper is an American award-winning journalist who serves as a Reporter for KSTP 5 Eyewitness News in the Twin Cities.

Cooper has gained experience through working in management, television news, and communications. She is highly skilled in photography, videography, writing, and overall news judgment.

Cooper attended the University of South Carolina – Columbia from where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of the Arts in Broadcast Journalism and a Minor in Art Studio with a focus in photography. In college, she was a news intern for NBC News in Charleston, South Carolina from June 2015 to August 2015. At NBC, she produced intern newscasts.

Cooper also interned at Student Gamecock Television (SGTV) as an executive producer in Columbia, South Carolina. She later became news director in August 2013 where she created a daily news budget. In January 2015, Cooper was made station manager where she managed the university budget and oversaw over 150 staff. While there serving as a manager, she was inducted into the Hall of Leaders two years in a row.

She served as a reporter for Carolina News from January 2016 to June 2016. There, she worked most commonly as a newsroom director, reporter (live), videographer, and editor. She was the first broadcast reporter to have a story featured in their Carolina Reporter’s website’s weekly publication.

Cooper began her broadcasting career as a reporter and multimedia journalist at KXMB-TV in Bismarck, North Dakota in March 2018. She became a crime reporter, producer, and anchor in April 2019. In the same month, Cooper won the Eric Sevareid Award from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association for ‘Broadcast Writing’, the station’s premier first-place award. This was for a series about the barriers to justice facing tribal citizens across North Dakota that she wrote, shot, and edited solo.

In May 2021, Cooper joined WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois, United States as a lead investigative reporter and target 3 team manager. While there she uncovered that the largest health insurance company in the state was overselling and under-delivering health care options to its customers which was a point of a state law violation. Cooper moved to KSTP TV – Channel 5 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States in January 2023.
