Shannon Sohn is an American Award-winning television news reporter at WABC-TV Eyewitness News in New York City. Sohn was hired by WABC-TV in 2001.

Sohn earned his high school diploma from Old Bridge High School (formerly known as Ceder Ridge High School) in 1992. She majored in journalism and communications at Rutgers University, with a minor in advertising. She obtained a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2000 after taking online classes.

Sohn interned at WCTC News Radio in New Brunswick, New Jersey, for two years throughout college. WCTC offered her a job as a weekend news anchor and to replace a gap in the station’s aerial traffic reporter position, which was being vacated by Dan Rice, who was leaving for WABC-TV in New York City. While at WCTC, Sohn won an Associated Press reporting prize. Sohn began reporting on aviation traffic for the radio stations WABC, WHTZ, and WPLJ in New York City.
She received a Peabody Award for her coverage of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She was supposed to finish her job just minutes after the first tower was hit, but she stayed in the studio until Friday, giving the public updates as they came in from reporters on the ground.
She was able to track the crash of a Chopper 4 helicopter in 2005 while flying in the WABC helicopter, utilizing the helicopter’s camera to track the crash in the hopes that the photographs would allow rescue responders to be accurately and swiftly routed to the exact area of the tragedy. Sohn’s reportage of the incident earned her a local Emmy Award for “Instant Breaking News.”Sohn became the first helicopter reporter to win a national Emmy Award after submitting the clip for consideration.
