Steve Bunin is an American 4-time Emmy Award winner and a 9-time nominee former anchor and reporter known for having worked at KING 5 as a news anchor. He worked for the station from December 2016 to December 2022. He departed from KING and founded Steve Bunin Communications, which has been up and running since February 2023.
Steve Bunin Education
Bunin earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University in 1996. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity while at Syracuse. During this time, he worked at the UUTV campus television studio, which is now known as CitrusTV. In 1992, he graduated from Mercer Island High School. He is on the school’s list of Notable Alumni.

Bunin is the founder of Steve Bunin Communications where apply the lessons he has learned from broadcasting on various networks: ABC, ESPN, CBS, NBC, and FOX, for the purpose of assisting in raising performance in any form such as image consulting, presentations, speechwriting, et cetera. He is known for having served as the morning news anchor for Seattle NBC station KING-TV. During his nine-year (2003-2012) tenure at ESPN, Bunin was one of the most versatile and well-liked anchors, hosting a variety of shows, most notably Outside The Lines, SportsCenter, and College Football Live. On ESPN and ESPN2, he also hosted Baseball Tonight, NFL Live, Sports Reporters, ESPN Radio, and numerous NCAA and pro sports events.
Bunin was the first ESPN anchor to receive the company’s prestigious “Game Ball” award for a character in 2010. In 2012, Barack Obama presented him with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his volunteer work, primarily with at-risk teens. Bunin was dubbed “one of the most underappreciated talents in sports journalism” by Sports Illustrated’s media critic Richard Deitsch in 2011. He was named one of the “Twelve Broadcasters Viewers Deserve More Of In 2012” in SI’s 2011 Media Awards.
Bunin was the lead anchor for Comcast SportsNet Houston from 2012 to 2014 before the network went bankrupt. Bunin was nominated for three Texas Emmy Awards in two years, winning for his groundbreaking interview with Carl Lewis. He co-hosted the midday show on ESPN Radio KFNC Houston and the prime-time national show on SB Nation Radio with Sean Salisbury from 2015 to 2016. Bunin joined KING-TV in 2017 and was nominated for a Regional Emmy for Best News Anchor in each of his first two years.
Bunin worked as a sports anchor at five local news stations before joining ESPN: WOTV-TV in Battle Creek, Michigan from 2002 to 2003, WLAJ-TV in Lansing, Michigan from 2000 to 2001, KNAZ-TV in Flagstaff, Arizona from 1998 to 2000, WICZ-TV in Binghamton, New York in 1997, and WTVH-TV in Syracuse, New York from 1995 to 1996, where he worked alongside future ABC anchor David Muir. The Arizona Associated Press named him Best TV Sportscaster and Best TV Sports Coverage in 1998. The Michigan Associated Press named him Best TV Sportscast in 2000.
