Simon is a producer and executive editor at CBS News. In April 2019, she was named executive editor of 60 Minutes. Simon has over two decades of news magazine reporting experience. Not long ago he was one of 60 Minutes’ senior producers whose responsibilities included supervising the production of “60 Minutes Sports” for Showtime and overseeing digital content. For most of her career, she has been contributing to 60 Minutes playing key roles in some of the broadcast’s highest-profile reports.
She worked on Ed Bradley’s team for six years, producing news stories including the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11 and the Duke lacrosse rape case, which took Peabody and Emmy awards. For the next decade, she worked with almost all the 60 Minutes correspondents producing stories for Bob Simon, her father, Oprah Winfrey, Lesley Stahl, Scott Pelley, Steve Kroft, and Anderson Cooper.
The segment produced by Simon was the first major television interview with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and the Emmy-winning first interview with hero pilot Capt among other segments. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and the investigation that revealed how Lance Armstrong used illegal PEDs to win bicycle races.
Furthermore, she produced two of the five stories 60 Minutes broadcast on the Boston Irish mob, whose leader, James “Whitey” Bulger, was No. 2 on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. Her journalism career began in 1996 working for CBS News as a researcher for “48 Hours.” From there, she was elevated to associate producer. Later she was promoted to the producer at the news magazine before joining 60 Minutes in 2000.
