Shaykhet was hired as an intern at Channel 7, before starting his broadcasting career at WXYZ, where he did his first reporting. His career started at Fox 47 in Lansing, Michigan as a reporter, and at NBC 24 in Toledo, Orlando as an anchor and reporter. He has covered the release of hundreds of cases such as the Detroit City Hall corruption affair, the Christmas Day bomber, and the Jimmy Hoffa hunt by the FBI.
Shaykhet then joined Fox 2 News in Detroit, where he served as a reporter for five years. There, he covered stories with great impact on Metro Detroit including the scandal surrounding former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the collapse of the automobile industry. He was also the featured correspondent for Fox 2 News ”Edge at 11,” while working at Fox 2 News. The station hired him to cover national stories including the impact of Hurricane Irene. In September 2013, he joined the WXYZ-TV Channel 7 Action News team, as an investigative reporter. He has also served as the spokesperson and public affairs specialist for the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
