Steve Chamraz Biography
Steve Chamraz is an American anchor and reporter working at TMJ4 where he serves as the host of Milwaukee Tonight an evening anchor at 4 pm alongside Susan Kim and 4 pm alongside Carole Meekins. He joined the TMJ4 news team in February 2011.
Chamraz first joined the TMJ4 team in 1994, as an intern, and later in 2011, he rejoined the station after having worked at television stations in; Chicago, Madison, Kansas City, San Francisco, and Saint Louis. Aside from his duties as an anchor and host at TMJ4, he can also be seen in front of major breaking news coverage and hosting community events such as the annual Juneteenth Day parade and the Milwaukee Bucks championship celebration. In addition, his work has been featured; on Court TV, CBS Evening News, and 60 Minutes.
His reporting has resulted in reforms to the court system, the resignations of powerful public servants, new state laws, and criminal investigations. For his reporting, he has been honored with a number of highest awards such as a National Headliner Award for Investigative Reporting. Furthermore, he was a finalist for the Editors Award and the Investigative Reporters. Chamraz has won nine Mid-America Emmy Awards, three awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, ten regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and eight Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awards.
Together with his time, they received a regional Edward R. Murrow award in 2016, for their news documentary called Making the Milwaukee which is a series that tracked the building of the U.S.S. Milwaukee. Steve’s reporting found local school districts failing in 2014, to do the required number of safety drills each year. In addition, his I-TEAM reporting exposed problems with illegal daycares such as harmful practices contributing to the deaths of children in 2011. In 1994, he joined Marquette University where he graduated in 1998, with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, political science, and criminology.
