Rod Burks is an American journalist working as a sports anchor and reporter at WTMJ-TV. He joined the TMJ4 sports team in March 2006.

Rod covered Shaq and former Marquette basketball player Dwyane Wade for WSVN-TV in Miami. “You just never knew what was going to come out of Shaq’s mouth on any given day,” Rod adds. Rod was a huge fan of the Miami Heat, Miami Hurricanes, Marlins, and Dolphins. Burks now enjoys covering the Packers and their fans.
Rod has spent a lot of time in the Midwest. While attending Columbia College, he began his radio career in the Chicago area. His perseverance earned him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cover Bears games. He went to Soldier Field for the first time with a neighbor’s camcorder.
He was given his own NBC crew to cover the games while he was there. Rod then went to Comcast to work as a high school football and basketball reporter. Rod had a great time working with high school athletes, coaches, and families. It was there that he honed his own distinctive style. Rod went on to work on FOX Sports Net Chicago, where he covered the Cubs, White Sox, Bears, and Bulls.
His next stop was Saginaw, Michigan, when he began working for the CBS affiliate as a weekend sports anchor. Michigan, Michigan State, and the Detroit Pistons were among the teams he covered. When a high school player from Saginaw turned out to be a high draft pick at the time, Rod was allowed to attend the NFL Draft in New York. Rod was in the hospital for a week. Rod had the time of his life in New York for a week. During the summer, don’t be surprised to find Rod wearing flip-flops at Bradford Beach.
