Tyisha Fernandes is an American journalist working for WSB as a reporter since joining the station in November 2014. Previously, she served the Fox affiliate in Boston, WFXT FOX 25 as a general assignment reporter for 2 years. Since 2012, she has served Black Triangle Media as a reporter.
Tyisha Fernandes Education
Fernandes joined the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1997 when she finished her high school education at Brockton High School. She studied Broadcast Journalism till 1998 when she transferred to the University of Massachusetts Boston.
In 1999, she transferred to Howard University and in 2002 graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. During her time at Howard University, she anchored and co-produced a university news show intern at BET.com when they started up in 2001.

Before coming to Atlanta, she worked in Boston at WFXT FOX 25 as a general assignment reporter for 2 years There, she presented local and national stories as well as pre-produced, covered stories such as “The Capture of Whitney Bulger” and “The Hepatitis C Outbreak in NH.” Also, she was a morning reporter covering breaking news, spot news, and community issues.
Before joining FOX 25, she worked in Fort Myers, Florida for FOX 4 News as a weekend anchor and lead reporter from May 2006 to November 2010. While at FOX 4 News, she shed light on the highly sloppy and expensive school transportation system in Lee County. Her story triggered a state audit and revamp of the bus system which saved taxpayers almost two-hundred thousand dollars and shortened the bus ride for school children. In 2009, she earned an Edward R. Murrow Award for her continuous coverage of transportation problems in the school district.
Fernandes began her multimedia journalism career at KWES NBC Newswest 9 where she worked from January 2004 to May 2006. During her time there, she shot her stories and received a promotion to work as a weekend anchor in 2005. Since April 2011, she has been a Volunteer at Contras Criolas Cancer where raising money for cancer research is fullfilling.
