Ken Smith Biography
Ken Smith is an American Reporter/Anchor working for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina where he serves the station as a Morning Anchor and General Assignment Reporter. He anchors the morning news at 7, 8 & 9 am for NBC/FOX Duopoly. He has been working with the station since December 1998.

Smith works with WRAL-TV where he serves the station as a Morning Anchor and General Assignment Reporter. Prior to WRAL-TV, he was working with WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Alabama. There, he was serving the station as an Anchor/Reporter. He serves the station between August 1995 and November 1998.
Before that, he also worked with KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon where he was serving the station as a Reporter/fill-in anchor. He worked for the station between August 1993 and July 1995. This is in addition to working for WAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia, and WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia. Asides from this, he has worked with WBNB-TV in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
In the course of his career, he has received a number of awards which include the 2008 Mid-South Regional Emmy for the best weekend newscast. The year 2009 saw him receive the Mid-South Regional Emmy for Spot News. This is in addition to receiving the 2012 Mid-South Regional Emmy for Breaking News and the 2012 National Emmy nomination for Breaking News. Asides from this, she also received the two Georgia Associated Press Awards for best spot news and best feature.
His News philosophy is that news is all about people. He explains that if they make it relevant to the lives of the people in the community and have done half of the jobs. Smith further explains that the other half is making sure that information is accurate and pertinent.
Among his most memorable assignments include covering the news and giving society an opportunity to have a front-row seat to memorable and historical events in the community and sometimes around the world. She explains that in the community, she witnessed firsthand the resilience and fortitude of friends and neighbors after Hurricane Irene and the April Tornado of 2011.
Being overseas, he was given an opportunity to travel with Fort Bragg troops to Northern Afghanistan in the year 2011 and the battle in Iraq in the year 2003 and 2004. He has also considered it an honor and a privilege to tell the stories of the troops waiting in Kuwait to head to the frontlines and the Fort Bragg troops stationed in Mosul, Iraq.
Away from work, she enjoys reading, music(jazz&calypso), hiking, and playing tennis and is a self-proclaimed Foodie. Asides from this, she is a Special Olympics N.C. volunteer and Wake County schools volunteer. She enjoys reading suspense novels, books about history and biographies, and travel and food magazines. Asides from this, he is a huge fan of authors Dan Brown, Douglas Brinkley, Lee Childs, and James Patterson. She is also a big fan of old movies such as “Casablanca,” “Live and Let Die,” “Goldfinger,” “An Affair to Remember,” “Casablanca,” 007 James Bond movies, “Dr. No,” and Classics like “Rear Window,” “The Godfather” (all three).
She states that what she loves most about North Carolina is the coast which reminds him of growing up in the Virgin Islands and the North Carolina Mountains, particularly during the Fall which is his favorite time of the year.
