Matt Reed is an American journalist who serves as a general assignment reporter for WCVB-TV in Boston, Massachusetts.
Reed has covered stories across Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area, Fort Myers, Florida Area, London, the United Kingdom, Greater Boston Area, Waco, Texas Area, Providence, and Rhode Island Area.
Matt Reed Education
Reed attended Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, Massachusetts. Reed attended the University of Miami from 2007 to 2011. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communication, Broadcast Journalism and also studied Theater Arts and Business Law. In 2011, she joined Boston University to pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) in Broadcast Journalism.
Reed interned at WPLG in Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area from June 2010 to August 2010. There, he assisted reporters in breaking news stories by interviewing witnesses and shooting B-roll. He also wrote for the 6 & 11 pm news broadcasts; helped producers prepare for newscasts.
Reed later interned at WFTX FOX 4 in Fort Myers, Florida Area from December 2010 to January 2011. Reed reported on stories throughout Lee and Collier Counties; three packages appeared on primetime broadcasts. He interned for WFOR | CBS Miami in Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area. Reed assisted the assignment desk; relayed information between reporters in the field and producers. He also learned the responsibilities and challenges of working in an owned-and-operated television station.
Matt Reed Career
Reed began his professional career in July 2012 as a London Olympics Correspondent at WBZ | CBS Boston in London, United Kingdom. While there, he reported in London during the 2012 Summer Olympics. Some of the stories he covered include Mitt Romney visiting London and Massachusetts resident, Kayla Harrison, becoming USA’s first gold medalist male or female in Olympic Judo. In September 2012, he joined 7 NEWS, WHDH-TV in Greater Boston Area. There, he wrote stories for the weekday and weekend evening newscasts, and updated reporter’s scripts. He also researched and monitored feeds to assist Executive Producer on the eve of Hurricane Sandy.
Matt became an adjunct professor at Baylor University in August 2014 in Waco, Texas Area. He instructed the introductory journalism course ‘Beginning Reporting & Writing’. He also led discussions, and created and graded assignments focused on understanding the fundamentals of news writing and reporting for different mediums.
Reed served as a reporter, producer, and anchor at KCEN-TV in Waco, Texas Area from February 2013 to February 2015. He reported for the 2014 Lone Star Emmy-winning KCEN News Special ‘West Remembered’. He also did live coverage of the West Fertilizer Plant Explosion, the April 2nd Ft. Hood Shooting, and the Trial of Nidal Hassan. Matt was also the lead reporter for KCEN’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ and served as a news and sports fill-in anchor. Reed produced shot, wrote, and edited for weekend newscasts.
Reed joined WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island Area in February 2015. There, he delivered live coverage of the Aaron Hernandez Trial, the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Trial, and the New England Patriots. Matt shot, wrote, and edited news and sports. He also served as a fill-in anchor.
In October 2017, Reed joined WCVB-TV in Greater Boston Area as a reporter. He did live coverage of breaking news events which include the Merrimack Valley Gas Line disaster, Massachusetts’ COVID-19 emergency declaration, and extreme weather. He is a member of the “Jump Team” which provides support to Hearst stations during major news events.
