A.J. Burnett is an American award-winning journalist who serves as a meteorologist and the weather producer for WCVB Channel 5’s StormTeam 5 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Burnett has worked across the New England market working in Boston, Maine, and New Hampshire. Being a person who likes giving back to the community, Burnett has worked with Birthday Wishes and is a huge supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association chapters in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Burnett attended Barnstable High School for his high school diploma from 1988 to 1992. In high school, he was involved in the Marching Band, Lacrosse, Cape Cod Conservatory Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. He went ahead to join Rutgers University in 1992 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth & Atmospheric Sciences. At Rutgers, he was a member of the Scarlet Knight Marching Band and was also a University Computer Services (RUCS) Computer Consultant (2-4).
A.J. Burnett Career
Burnett began his meteorology career as a radio broadcast meteorologist for Weather Services Corp in Greater Boston Area from September 1996 to September 1998. There, he produced forecasts and provided radio clients nationwide with live and pre-recorded on-air presentations.
Burnett joined The Weather Company, an IBM Business in Andover, MA in September 1998. There, he produced graphical content for television stations throughout Canada, in Lima, Peru, the U.S., and Brazil. He was also the voice of Bloomberg Television, Discovery Wings, TimeWarner Cable 24-hour weather stations, and Discovery Health Channels. A J appeared in live weather reports for FOX News Channel.
A.J. joined WFXT FOX25 in Greater Boston Area in May 2000 as a freelance meteorologist. He served as a fill-in for the weather department. He became a full-time meteorologist in January 2004. During that time, he prepared accurate forecasts and engaging, dynamic presentations for television news and web audiences. He also coordinated interviews and produced special scientific and environmentally-driven stories.
In February 2012, he became a seasonal meteorologist for Hometown Forecast Service in Nashua, NH. Until his departure in April of the same year, Burnett forecasted for highly weather-sensitive businesses and municipalities. He also voiced recorded and live forecasts for radio clients around the country. He served as a freelance meteorologist for New England Cable News from August 2012 to September 2013.
Burnett joined WMUR-TV in New Hampshire in July 2012 as a freelance meteorologist in Manchester, NH. He augmented the Storm Watch 9 coverage of weather across the Granite State using WSI’s TruVu Max weather presentation system. He also freelanced as a weekend meteorologist with WCVB-TV’s EyeOpener morning newscasts from January to March 2013. A.J. served as a substitute math and science teacher at Beverly Public Schools in Beverly, MA. He became a meteorologist for TEGNA (formerly Gannett) in Portland, Maine Area from October 2013 to August 2015. A.J. pioneered the station’s severe weather coverage during breaking weather situations, among other roles.
Burnett is the president of Burnett Media Group which provides voice-over recordings for narrations, e-learning, marketing, or commercial needs. The organization has worked for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, MassVacation.com, Sallie Mae, Perkins School, and Alzheimer’s Association. The organization also provides consulting services for smaller businesses looking to advertise and grow their brands.
A.J. joined WCVB in Greater Boston Area in January 2016. He produces best-in-class weather content for broadcast, web, and social media platforms. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society. For his success in broadcast meteorology, he holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval.
