Naoko Funayama Biography
Naoko Funayama is a Japanese American journalist who serves as a sportscaster for WCVB’s SportsCenter 5 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Funayama joined WCVB’s SportsCenter 5 team in May 2022 as a reporter working alongside Bob Halloran, Josh Brogadir, and Duke Castiglione.

Funayama began his reporting career at Adelphia Cable 10 in Frederick, Maryland. She later joined Hearst-owned station WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire in August 2004 as a sports producer, anchor, and reporter.
In April 2007, Funayama joined NESN as a freelance Boston Red Sox reporter. She made coverage of the opening trip to Tokyo in 2007. In September 2008, she joined NESN full-time as the Bruins’ in-game reporter and also the host of The Buzz. This is a Bruins countdown show which was initially hosted by Filipino-Canadian sportscaster Hazel Mae. Funayama covered the Bruins’ trip to Belfast and Prague to start the 2010-11 season. During her time with them, The Bruins went to the Stanley Cup Final twice, and in 2011 they won a historic championship.
NESN failed to renew Funayama’s contract in June 2013 and she was replaced by American reporter Jamie Erdahl. Funayama later served as a reporter for NBC Sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. In 2017, she joined the New England Revolution broadcast team as a sideline reporter.
